HOME INSPIRATION: MAKE YOUR RENTAL FLAT FEEL LIKE HOME

Valuation Request

You don’t need to own your property to make your place feel homely, and with more of us spending time inside, there’s never been a better time to make some updates.

While you’ll need permission from your landlord to do things like painting the walls or updating the floors, there are ways to get Insta-worthy interiors without wasting your cash.

Whether you’re renting a room or a whole house, we’ve found some temporary hacks for sprucing up your space without breaking the bank.

1. Brighten up your wall with some Artwork

If your rented home has white walls, artwork can add a punch of colour without the need to bargain with your landlord about re-painting.

Make sure you read your contract to find out if you’re allowed to put nails on your walls; if not, you could try picture hanging strips, which are ideal for hanging framed photos without causing damage to your walls. Or, you could simply prop your art on a side table, for a relaxed aesthetic that won’t put your deposit at risk.

2. Bring nature inside by adding put some plants

Studies have found that plants can help to reduce stress levels while you’re working from home, plus, some varieties naturally purify the air around you.

If you’re new to the world of gardening, we recommend looking at aloe vera, English ivy, and snake plants; three hardy varieties that are fairly low-maintenance and easy to care for.

3. Be comfortable and lay down some big rugs

Turn your attention to the floor and chances are you will hate the carpet or you are scared that you’ll stain it and lose your deposit. A large rug and I mean at least 2.3 x 1.6 in size can really transform a room. Hide and protect the carpet and go for a statement rug and get some much needed colour or pattern in the room.  A statement rug can change the look of a room as well as guarding your floor against stains and wear.

4. Style up your sofa and add throw in some texture

Fabrics can add warmth and texture to a rental space, and they can also cover up a dodgy sofa that your landlord is reluctant to update. Layering different textures through the use of cushions and curtains can bring loads of personality to your home, without too much effort.

5. Be creative and add photo frames for personal touches

Whether it's an unloved hallway or a living room that needs some cheer, a few photo frames with pictures of friends and family can make your house feel a lot more welcoming. Photos of good times can spark memories and bring you joy and spread some good vibes.

Adding personal touches to your rental flat can make it feel like you’re always at home.

Before planning to decorate your rental flat, it is best to ask your landlord first to make sure you will not lose some of your deposit.
